Is he proud of his relative youth? Does he dislike the fact of it?
He's used to being called a "Young Prodigy", he sort of laughs off being nicknamed "The Prince of Romdeau"...he's self-satisfied in what he knows he's capable of, and the fact that he has authority and is young- no one really doubted his competency because of age before until he encountered it here in Siren's Port.
At Skye they're calling him Doogie, and while he doesn't catch the cultural reference he knows it's a playful insult on his age. He runs into a lot of middle-aged nurses who either try to mother him or resent a young doctor getting aggravated with their inefficiency- ageism has been really tough on his recently. He's had to learn to make compromises and bow to higher authority- luckily he's very patient, and skilled at playing passive. But it's a quiet tension that's building- work really wears him out at Skye, which is why he'll eventually take the upcoming offers and cozy up in some SERO lab all by himself with some microscopes and interesting DNA specimens and be more satisfied and relaxed than he's willing to admit.
He doesn't look down on old geezers, but he did sort of begrudge Re-l's grandfather the regent for giving up on progress.
He deeply dislikes it when Raul calls him a 'boy', and lords age over his head in a domineering way. But he's got the smug 'I may be young but I know so much more than you and have so much more self-restraint' chip on his shoulder.
To Daedalus, which is better: Siren's Port, or his home world in its most perfect state? There's so many clear differences between the two of them--natural childbirth versus synthetic babies is one that immediately comes to mind! Is there a depth to his preference?--like, professionally, he would admit to preferring home, but personally there are aspects of all this freedom that he enjoys.
Daedalus is kinda constantly wrestling with this question, nowadays.
On one hand, Romdeau was very packaged, very neat, very well maintained. Things had a clear place and a clear function, and...once you explored every corner of the system's intricacies, it was very boring. Once you knew the truth of it's design-doomed-to-extinguish-itself...well. That spoilt a lot of it's beauty, even in its most perfectly balanced state.
Siren's Port is very much none of those things. It's crazy-hectic and there's very little oversight and that's...very bewildering, very uncomfortable, very viscerally horrifying in some sense. But at the same time it's liberating, there's a wealth of new ideas and things to explore, he's lost all his status and comforts and civic privileges but that's not terribly- he can overlook that, because he's kinda disillusioned about Romdeau, and because he'll learn the loopholes of exploiting a new system, though that may take some time.
Abilities are also a big draw- he's fascinated by all these new scientific breakthroughs and curious genetics.
So...while there are drawbacks, I think he prefers the mental stimulation of Siren's Port. It's going to take some getting used to, because he's used to a very rigidly controlled environment, but he's tolerant and open to new things.
